This includes sharing audio, visual and GPS information in real time, allowing your loved ones to stay up-to-date and have peace of mind through the information you share via the SEAM app.

What is the Lotus by SEAM?

The Lotus by SEAM is a personal safety wearable device that connects via Bluetooth to the SEAM a Once paired to the SEAM app via Bluetooth, it allows you to control the app, access your voice assistant, and make hands-free phone calls right from the device.

With the Lotus, you are able to record your GPS location with audio without having to take out your phone, to up to 5 contacts real time.

The Lotus can also access your SIRI or Google Assistant voice assistant (depending on your OS platform). This feature allows you to send text messages, check the weather and time, make hands free calls via voice commands and more.

Is the Seam Personal Safety app free?

Yes! The SEAM app is available for free for download and use. We also offer a premium subscription that provides more robust features.

What is SeamPlus+?

SEAMPlus+ is our in-app premium subscription of the SEAM a SEAMPlus+ extends the functionality of the free version by letting you save journey logs for up to 3 months, instead of the free 24 hours. Your journey logs are downloadable as video logs which contain the photos and audio of that log.

Pricing for SEAMPlus+ are:

Lotus by SEAM

How do I connect the Lotus to the SEAM app?

The Lotus connects to the app through a Bluetooth connection with the phone you have the SEAM app on.

To connect the Lotus to the SEAM app:

  1. Turn on your phone’s Bluetooth if it’s not already on.
  2. Activate the Lotus device by pressing down any button on the device. The Lotus will indicate it is in Bluetooth discovery mode and is looking for pairing.
  3. On your phone your Bluetooth should be enabled and be scanning for new devices to pair to. Please give a few seconds for the Lotus to appear as a device to pair with. Once it appears simply select the Lotus and your phone should connect with the Lotus.
  4. If you have successfully connected the Lotus to your phone the Lotus will turn purple, indicating it has successfully connected with your phone and is in standby mode waiting to be activated. The Lotus will also make a confirmation beep indicating it has received a signal from your phone.
  5. Now open your SEAM app and in the top right corner click on the Lotus icon, which looks like the Lotus. Doing so will take you through the process of the SEAM app recognizing the Lotus device.
  6. After doing so you will have successfully connected your Lotus to the SEAM app and are ready to start logging through the Lotus device!
How long of a battery does a Lotus last?

You can expect to get 7 hours of standby time and up to 5 hours of talk and recording time. However, with the included portable charging case you can easily get an additional 42+

How do I operate the Lotus device?

Operating the Lotus is easy and simple, with all the controls and functions done via the two built-in buttons on the device, which can be found on either side of the device.

Process for Lotus device:

  • Holding one button on the Lotus will turn it on and begin pairing to your device
  • Pressing one button on the Lotus will activate voice assistant mode, where the Lotus will activate either SIRI or Google Assistant voice assistant (depending on your OS platform).
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time will start recording a log from the Lotus for the SEAM a The Lotus device will record audio directly from the built-in microphone.
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time for the second time will activate share/recording from the Lotus for the SEAM a
  • Pressing and holding both buttons at the same time will activate emergency calling, regardless of whether the Lotus device is in standby, recording or shared logging mode. You will be able to start a call by simply holding down both buttons. Plus, with the built-in microphone and speaker you are able to take hands-free calls directly from the Lotus device
  • To end a call simply hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put you in share recording.
  • To stop recording a log hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put the Lotus into standby mode awaiting to start a new log.
  • To turn off the Lotus device hold down one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will turn off the Lotus and disconnect the Lotus from your device
What do the different colours indicate on the Lotus?

When the Lotus turns blue the Lotus is in Bluetooth discovery mode for pairing with your mobile phone.

When the Lotus turns purple the Lotus is paired via Bluetooth and is in now in standby mode waiting to be activated.

When the Lotus turns green, blue, yellow, and red all at once the Lotus will activate your phone’s voice assistant, be it SIRI or Google Assistant.

When the Lotus turns green the Lotus and SEAM app have started a recording, by recording your GPS location as well as recording audio (from the Lotus device) and visual data (from your phone’s cameras) but without notifying your guardians.

When the Lotus turns yellow the Lotus and SEAM app have started a share/recording, by recording your GPS location as well as recording audio (from the Lotus device) and visual data (from your phone’s cameras) and also notifying your guardians that you are

When the Lotus turns red the Lotus initiates hands-free calling to your nearest guardian. The SEAM app is recording and sharing your GPS location with your guardians while you are on the call. During a call the Lotus or SEAM app will not be recording the audio from that conversation

What commands can I do with the voice assistant on the Lotus?

Any commands your voice assistant can already do! Since the Lotus activates either Google Assistant or SIRI, depending on your OS platform, you can make any voice assistant command from your Lotus.

With the Lotus you can check the weather, send a message, or even start a call with the voice assistant.

NOTE: voice assistant must be enabled in the Lotus settings page of the SEAM app to be used.

SEAM Personal Safety App

What iOS or Android versions is the SEAM app compatible with?

For iOS the SEAM app is compatible with any device running OS 10.0.2 or above.

For Android the SEAM app is compatible with any device running Android 6.0 or above.

NOTE: although Android devices running Android 5.1.1 or below can download and install the SEAM app, the app does not work properly due to how the permission system works on older versions.

Will I need an internet connection for the SEAM app to work?

Yes, an internet connection is needed to access the SEAM app or to start recording or notify your guardians.

How do I add a guardian on the Seam app?

To invite a contact to be your guardian:

  1. Go to My Guardians page in the app
  2. Tap “Add Guardian”
  3. Fill out the required information including name, phone number, and email or search through the contacts on your phone/device
  4. Confirm that the information about that person is correct and hit “Add Guardian”
  5. The person will now be sent an email or text message (depending on information provided) inviting them to download the SEAM app and become your guardian. They will receive a push notification from the app if they have already installed the app on their phone/device. Once they have confirmed being your guardian they will appear as one of your guardians in the “My Guardians” section in the My Guardians page.

How do I start recording a log?

You can start recording a log from any of the three circle icons on the Home page screen. Simply select and drag to the center of the screen the type of recording you wish to do.

  • The “Record” button (green icon) will start recording a log without notifying your guardians.
  • The “Share” button (yellow icon) will start recording a log but will also notify all or just the guardian you choose to notify.
  • The “Emergency Calling” button (red icon) will start recording a log and also make an emergency call to your nearest guardian or selected guardian. The SEAM app will not record the audio from that phone conversation; it will resume recording audio once the call has ended.
  • During any of these recording modes you will be able to switch from one to another.

To end any recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording when the recording timer goes back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

NOTE: all logs that you record are stored on the cloud automatically and are available for all of your guardians to view, even those who were not selected.

Android users can also make emergency calls within the app to 911 services. iOS are not able to call 911 services due to app restrictions.

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?

When you start and share a log to your guardians, the SEAM app will start taking visual, audio, and GPS information which is available for playback when you or a guardian watches the log.

Visual information gathered by the SEAM app are pictures taken from the built-in front and rear cameras of your phone or device.

Audio information gathered by the SEAM app is sound taken from the built-in mic on your phone or device.

GPS information gathered by the SEAM app is tracking of your global location during a recording of a log. This information is presented by mapping your location as a historical path.

What countries is the Seam app available in?

For Android the SEAM app is available in 141 countries. The countries included are:

What is SEAM Voice?

SEAM Voice is our voice assistant available on the Google Assistant App and on Google Home devices. SEAM Voice allows you to use voice commands to stay up to date on any notifications you have and where your dependents are without needing to open the SEAM a

NOTE: you will need to download and create an account on the SEAM app before being able to use SEAM Voice.

Do I need a SEAM Account to use SEAM Voice?

Yes, to use SEAM Voice you will need to have a registered account which you can create once you have downloaded the SEAM app, available on both Google Play and iTunes.

How do I connect my SEAM Account to Google Assistant?

To connect your SEAM account to Google Assistant simply use the command, “Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice.”

If you are not yet connected, SEAM Voice will notify you of this and ask you to connect SEAM Voice with Google. Follow the link and on screen instructions to sign into your SEAM a Once logged in you will be redirected back to Google Assistant.

To confirm you have logged in successful simply use the same command again, “Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice,” and SEAM Voice will respond back with your name.

What commands are available for SEAM Voice on Google Assistant?

The voice commands you can use currently for SEAM Voice are:

“Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice.”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice to update me on my notifications.”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice where is [dependent’s name]?”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice to update me on [dependent’s name’ journey.”

NOTE: for voice commands requiring a dependent’s name you will need to have dependents in the “My Dependents” section of the SEAM a

What devices will SEAM Voice work on?

SEAM Voice will work on any device that can use the Google Assistant a This includes Google Home, Android 6.0+ tablets, Android 6.0+ TVs, headphones, Android 6.0+ phones, Chromebooks, and iOS 9.0+ phones.

Troubleshooting

I can’t create an account?

If you are having trouble creating an account through the SEAM Sign Up form please ensure that all information entered is correct. To prevent multiple accounts being made the SEAM app only allows one phone number and email to be used per account.

If you are having trouble creating an account due to the SEAM App saying the phone number entered is not valid but is correct, please try entering your country’s calling code before your number so that it can be recognized. To find out your country’s calling code, search here.

Why can't I add a guardian?

If you are having trouble adding a guardian please make sure you have allowed permission for the SEAM app to access the contacts you have saved on your phone. Doing so will allow the app to import the information, i.e. name, phone number, and email address, you have on a contact into the guardian form for you.

If however, you clicked on the “+” icon and nothing happens in the SEAM app, this is due to your phone running Android 5.1.1 or below. Due to how the permission system works for Android 5.1.1 or below, this makes our app unable to allow users to add guardians to their account.

This unfortunately makes the Android 5.1.1 or below devices not compatible with our app since being able to add and share to your guardians ensures you are able to stay connected, social, and safe with the SEAM a

Some of my logs are disappearing on their own, can I recover the log?

For free users of the SEAM app you are able to store your logs for only 24 hours. After 24 hours have passed since the recording of the log, that log will disappear from your logs page and be marked for deletion from our servers.

To store logs longer, you can upgrade to SEAMPlus+ where you can store logs for 3 months and also download your logs as video files for you to store and keep.

To recover any lost logs simply reach out to us at support@SEAMtechnic.com providing us with the email of your account and the date and time of that log you wish to recover and we will be able to recover it.

NOTE: we only hold onto logs an additional 48 hours when they have been marked for deletion. So please reach out to us as soon as possible so we can help you recover a log.

My voice assistant on the Lotus is not working.

To activate voice assistant on the Lotus you must ensure that you have voice assistant enabled in the Lotus settings page of the SEAM a Simply open the SEAM app and once you reach the homepage select the Lotus icon in the top left corner. If connected you will come to your Lotus’ setting page. Enable the setting for voice assistant.

Once enabled you simply press one button on the Lotus while in standby mode to activate voice assistant. This will turn the Lotus green, blue, yellow, and red and a bing noise will sound indicating the Lotus is listening for your command.

Why is my Lotus beeping on its own?

When the Lotus goes below 5% of battery it will start making a beeping sound every 30 seconds to indicate that the Lotus’ battery is very low. When this low battery beeping indicator starts it is highly recommended you place your Lotus in its charging case to charge.

Account Management

How do I change my account info?

To change any of your account information simply select the “settings” icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. From there you can select “My Profile” to change information about you such as name, profile image, phone number, and email address.

NOTE: changing your email address will require you to confirm the new email address provided.

I just got a new phone, can I keep my account and logs?

Congrats on your new phone! And yes you can still keep your account and logs, simply log into the SEAM app on your new phone and all your logs can be accessed from your new phone.

Oh no I forgot my password! How do I reset it?

To reset your password simply select the “Forgot Password?” from the login page and you will be emailed a link to reset your password.

If you still have trouble resetting your password, please reach out to us at support@seamtechnic.com explaining the problem you are having and the email for your account on the SEAM app.

Can I get a refund for my premium subscription to SEAMPlus+?

In-app subscription purchases are 100% refundable for 24 hours after purchase. After 24 hours have passed the subscription sale is final without exception and cannot be refunded.

What is SEAM?

SEAM is a social safety platform, creating digital connections between your trusted network through recording and sharing of rich environmental data, including photo, audio, and GPS location. Why do I need to allow permissions for the app to use camera and storage, audio recording, location, and contact information?

Giving the SEAM app permission to use camera and storage, audio recording, location, and get contact information will allow for the Seam app to effectively gather visual, audio, and GPS information from the built-in cameras, mic, and GPS location your device collects, as well as information about contacts when you are adding new guardians.

What do you do with my data?

Any information or data we collect using our services will be stored on your device and be uploaded to the cloud via an SSL encrypted transfer; this includes all audio, visual, and GPS data collected. We do not use, sell, rent, trade or otherwise disclose any information collected except where required or permitted by law.

We may disclose information to technical service providers to operate or maintain the app and services. As well, we may provide aggregated statistics about our services, customers, traffic patterns and other information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any information that could personally identify you.

How much data does the SEAM App use?

The SEAM app’s bit rate for data usage is 167 kb/sec or approximately 10 mb/min during recording. At SEAM, we have taken data usage into account and it is this reason why, while recording, the app will take still images rather than video clips. This reduce the amount of data needed by the app while recording.

How much of an impact does the SEAM App have on a device’s battery?

The impact to your device’s battery level will vary from user to user depending on if you are recording logs, viewing logs or checking notifications. The biggest impact to battery is recording of logs which is due to recording GPS, audio, and visual information from your device’s built-in cameras and microphone.

When using the SEAM app users should expect about 10% shorter battery life on their device when running the app.

What do the different colours indicate on the Lotus?

When the Lotus turns blue the Lotus is in Bluetooth discovery mode for pairing with your mobile phone.

When the Lotus turns purple the Lotus is paired via Bluetooth and is in now in standby mode waiting to be activated.

When the Lotus turns green, blue, yellow, and red all at once the Lotus will activate your phone’s voice assistant, be it SIRI or Google Assistant.

When the Lotus turns green the Lotus and SEAM app have started a recording, by recording your GPS location as well as recording audio (from the Lotus device) and visual data (from your phone’s cameras) but without notifying your guardians.

When the Lotus turns yellow the Lotus and SEAM app have started a share/recording, by recording your GPS location as well as recording audio (from the Lotus device) and visual data (from your phone’s cameras) and also notifying your guardians that you are

When the Lotus turns red the Lotus initiates hands-free calling to your nearest guardian. The SEAM app is recording and sharing your GPS location with your guardians while you are on the call. During a call the Lotus or SEAM app will not be recording the audio from that conversation.

What commands can I do with the voice assistant on the Lotus?

Any commands your voice assistant can already do! Since the Lotus activates either Google Assistant or SIRI, depending on your OS platform, you can make any voice assistant command from your Lotus.

With the Lotus you can check the weather, send a message, or even start a call with the voice assistant.

NOTE: voice assistant must be enabled in the Lotus settings page of the SEAM app to be used.

SEAM Personal Safety App

What iOS or Android versions is the SEAM app compatible with?

For iOS the SEAM app is compatible with any device running OS 10.0.2 or above.

For Android the SEAM app is compatible with any device running Android 6.0 or above.

NOTE: although Android devices running Android 5.1.1 or below can download and install the SEAM app, the app does not work properly due to how the permission system works on older versions.

Will I need an internet connection for the SEAM app to work?

Yes, an internet connection is needed to access the SEAM app or to start recording or notify your guardians.

How do I add a guardian on the Seam app?

To invite a contact to be your guardian:

  1. Go to My Guardians page in the app
  2. Tap “Add Guardian”
  3. Fill out the required information including name, phone number, and email or search through the contacts on your phone/device
  4. Confirm that the information about that person is correct and hit “Add Guardian”
  5. The person will now be sent an email or text message (depending on information provided) inviting them to download the SEAM app and become your guardian. They will receive a push notification from the app if they have already installed the app on their phone/device. Once they have confirmed being your guardian they will appear as one of your guardians in the “My Guardians” section in the My Guardians page.

How do I start recording a log?

You can start recording a log from any of the three circle icons on the Home page screen. Simply select and drag to the center of the screen the type of recording you wish to do.

  • The “Record” button (green icon) will start recording a log without notifying your guardians.
  • The “Share” button (yellow icon) will start recording a log but will also notify all or just the guardian you choose to notify.
  • The “Emergency Calling” button (red icon) will start recording a log and also make an emergency call to your nearest guardian or selected guardian. The SEAM app will not record the audio from that phone conversation; it will resume recording audio once the call has ended.
  • During any of these recording modes you will be able to switch from one to another.

To end any recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording when the recording timer goes back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

NOTE: all logs that you record are stored on the cloud automatically and are available for all of your guardians to view, even those who were not selected.

Android users can also make emergency calls within the app to 911 services. iOS are not able to call 911 services due to app restrictions.

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?

When you start and share a log to your guardians, the SEAM app will start taking visual, audio, and GPS information which is available for playback when you or a guardian watches the log.

Visual information gathered by the SEAM app are pictures taken from the built-in front and rear cameras of your phone or device.

Audio information gathered by the SEAM app is sound taken from the built-in mic on your phone or device.

GPS information gathered by the SEAM app is tracking of your global location during a recording of a log. This information is presented by mapping your location as a historical path.

Do I need a SEAM Account to use SEAM Voice?

Yes, to use SEAM Voice you will need to have a registered account which you can create once you have downloaded the SEAM app, available on both Google Play and iTunes.

How do I connect my SEAM Account to Google Assistant?

To connect your SEAM account to Google Assistant simply use the command, “Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice.”

If you are not yet connected, SEAM Voice will notify you of this and ask you to connect SEAM Voice with Google. Follow the link and on screen instructions to sign into your SEAM a Once logged in you will be redirected back to Google Assistant.

To confirm you have logged in successful simply use the same command again, “Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice,” and SEAM Voice will respond back with your name.

What commands are available for SEAM Voice on Google Assistant?

The voice commands you can use currently for SEAM Voice are:

“Ok Google, talk to SEAM Voice.”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice to update me on my notifications.”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice where is [dependent’s name]?”

“Ok Google, ask SEAM Voice to update me on [dependent’s name’ journey.”

What devices will SEAM Voice work on?

Troubleshooting

I can’t create an account?

If you are having trouble creating an account through the SEAM Sign Up form please ensure that all information entered is correct. To prevent multiple accounts being made the SEAM app only allows one phone number and email to be used per account.

If you are having trouble creating an account due to the SEAM App saying the phone number entered is not valid but is correct, please try entering your country’s calling code before your number so that it can be recognized. To find out your country’s calling code, search here.

Why can't I add a guardian?

If you are having trouble adding a guardian please make sure you have allowed permission for the SEAM app to access the contacts you have saved on your phone. Doing so will allow the app to import the information, i.e. name, phone number, and email address, you have on a contact into the guardian form for you.

If however, you clicked on the “+” icon and nothing happens in the SEAM app, this is due to your phone running Android 5.1.1 or below. Due to how the permission system works for Android 5.1.1 or below, this makes our app unable to allow users to add guardians to their account.

This unfortunately makes the Android 5.1.1 or below devices not compatible with our app since being able to add and share to your guardians ensures you are able to stay connected, social, and safe with the SEAM a

Some of my logs are disappearing on their own, can I recover the log?

For free users of the SEAM app you are able to store your logs for only 24 hours. After 24 hours have passed since the recording of the log, that log will disappear from your logs page and be marked for deletion from our servers.

To store logs longer, you can upgrade to SEAMPlus+ where you can store logs for 3 months and also download your logs as video files for you to store and keep.

To recover any lost logs simply reach out to us at support@SEAMtechnic.com providing us with the email of your account and the date and time of that log you wish to recover and we will be able to recover it.

NOTE: we only hold onto logs an additional 48 hours when they have been marked for deletion. So please reach out to us as soon as possible so we can help you recover a log.

My voice assistant on the Lotus is not working.

To activate voice assistant on the Lotus you must ensure that you have voice assistant enabled in the Lotus settings page of the SEAM a Simply open the SEAM app and once you reach the homepage select the Lotus icon in the top left corner. If connected you will come to your Lotus’ setting page. Enable the setting for voice assistant.

Once enabled you simply press one button on the Lotus while in standby mode to activate voice assistant. This will turn the Lotus green, blue, yellow, and red and a bing noise will sound indicating the Lotus is listening for your command.

Why is my Lotus beeping on its own?

When the Lotus goes below 5% of battery it will start making a beeping sound every 30 seconds to indicate that the Lotus’ battery is very low. When this low battery beeping indicator starts it is highly recommended you place your Lotus in its charging case to charge.

How do I change my account info?

To change any of your account information simply select the “settings” icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. From there you can select “My Profile” to change information about you such as name, profile image, phone number, and email address.

NOTE: changing your email address will require you to confirm the new email address provided.

I just got a new phone, can I keep my account and logs?

Congrats on your new phone! And yes you can still keep your account and logs, simply log into the SEAM app on your new phone and all your logs can be accessed from your new phone.

Oh no I forgot my password! How do I reset it?

To reset your password simply select the “Forgot Password?” from the login page and you will be emailed a link to reset your password.

Can I get a refund for my premium subscription to SEAMPlus+?

In-app subscription purchases are 100% refundable for 24 hours after purchase. After 24 hours have passed the subscription sale is final without exception and cannot be refunded.

We may disclose information to technical service providers to operate or maintain the app and services. As well, we may provide aggregated statistics about our services, customers, traffic patterns and other information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any information that could personally identify you.

How much data does the SEAM app use?

The SEAM app’s bit rate for data usage is 167 kb/sec or approximately 10 mb/min during recording. At SEAM, we have taken data usage into account and it is this reason why, while recording, the app will take still images rather than video clips. This reduce the amount of data needed by the app while recording.

How much of an impact does the SEAM app have on a device’s battery?

The impact to your device’s battery level will vary from user to user depending on if you are recording logs, viewing logs or checking notifications. The biggest impact to battery is recording of logs which is due to recording GPS, audio, and visual information from your device’s built-in cameras and microphone.

When using the SEAM app users should expect about 10% shorter battery life on their device when running the app.
