What is the Seam Personal Safety app?

The Seam Personal Safety app (also known as the Seam app) allows you to easily and effectively communicate with your trusted network of guardians. Allowing you to easily share rich environmental information such as audio, visual, and GPS information in real time. Ensuring your network of guardians are up-to-date and have the peace of mind through information which actually provides plenty of context about you and where you are.

Yes! The Seam Personal Security is available for free for download and use. We also offer a premium subscription that gives you even more of the app.

What is SeamPlus?

SeamPlus is our premium subscription of the Seam Personal Security app which extends the time logs are saved and giving you the ability to download your recorded logs. With logs only being saved for 24 hours at a time for free, SeamPlus allows you to save recorded logs for 3 months and the ability to download your logs for you to keep.

Will I need an internet connection for the Seam app to work?

An internet connection is needed to access the Seam app or to start recording or notify your guardians.

How do I add a guardian on the Seam app?

To invite a contact to be your guardian:

  1. Go to My Guardians page in the app
  2. Tap “Add Guardian”
  3. Fill out the required information including name, phone number, and email or search through the contacts on your phone/device
  4. Confirm information about that person is correct and hit “Add Guardian”
  5. The person will now be sent an email or text message (depending on information provided) inviting them to download the Seam app and become your guardian. They will receive a push notification from the app is they already have the app installed on their phone/device. Once they have confirmed being your guardian they will appear as one of your guardians in the “My Guardians” section in the My Guardians page.
How do I become someone’s guardian on the Seam app?

To become someone’s guardian:

  1. Have that person add you as a guardian while they are logged into their account.
  2. Once you receive an email or text message to become someone’s guardian click the link in the email and follow the on screen instructions. OR if you already have the Seam app installed on your device you will receive a push notification that someone wants to add you as a guardian.
  3. Once you accept you will appear as one of their guardians and that person will appear as one of your dependents in the “My Dependents” section in the My Guardians page.
Can I accept an invite for someone else?

The Seam app aims to provide you with a safe and secure way to share rich environmental information with your trusted contacts. Therefore, there is no way to remotely accept an invite for someone else. The user invited must accept the invite on their own device.

What phones will run the Seam app?

We work on both iPhone and Android devices. As long as you are able to download the Seam app on the iTunes or Google Play app store then the app can be used. As well, no matter what phone your guardians use the Seam app works cross-platform allowing you to stay connected with a guardian using an iPhone device or a guardian using an Android device.

What are guardians and dependents?

Guardians are your trusted network of contacts, be it family, friends or co-workers. You are able to choose up to five guardians and share easily your logs with anyone one or all of your guardians.

Dependents are the people you are a guardian for.

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?When you start and share a log to your guardians the Seam app will start taking visual, audio, and GPS information which is available for playback when a guardian or yourself watches the log.

Visual information gathered by the Seam app is pictures taken from the built-in front and rear cameras of your phone or device.

Audio information gathered by the Seam app is sound taken from the built-in mic on your phone or device.

GPS information gathered by the Seam app is tracking of your global location during a recording of a log. This information is presented by mapping your location as a historical path.

How do I start recording a log?

You can start recording a log from any of the three circle icons on the Home page screen. Simply select and drag to the center of the screen the type of recording you wish to do.

  • The “Record” button (green icon) will start recording a log without notifying your guardians.
  • The “Share” button (yellow icon) will start recording a log but also notify all or just the guardian you choose to notify.
  • The “Emergency Calling” button (red icon) will start recording a log but also make an emergency call to your nearest guardian, a select guardian, or emergency services/911 (on Android only).
  • During any of these recording modes you will be able to switch from one to another. For example, switching from just recording a log to also sharing that log to making an emergency call.

To end any recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

NOTE: all logs that you record are stored on the cloud automatically and are available for all your guardians to view, even those which they were not notified to.

How do I start sharing a log?

You can start sharing a log by selecting and dragging the “share” button (yellow icon). This will start recording a log that also notifies all or just the guardian you choose to notify.

Your guardian(s) will be notified of you starting a log and will be able to watch these logs live in real-time as they are being recorded. Allowing them to see, hear, and know where you are exactly as you record live.

To end a recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

What are logs and how do I see them?

Logs are the recordings you do. These logs record visual, audio, and GPS information and are saved securely on the cloud. Logs can be seen in the Log page of the Seam app. As well, individual logs of each of your guardians can be seen by going to a dependent’s profile page, by clicking their name/profile picture in the My Dependents section of the My Guardians page, and clicking “View Logs.”

How do I delete logs?

Logs can be deleted by simply hitting the red trash bin icon beside each log. As well, logs will be automatically deleted after 24 hours for free users of the Seam app.

How do I download logs?

In the free version of the app downloading of logs is unavailable. However, with SeamPlus, the premium subscription of the app, you are able to download your recorded logs.

Can download logs by viewing the log you wish to download, selecting the image icon in the top right corner, and hitting the download icon. This will take you a page where it will ask you to generate the video (note: this can take several minutes depending on log size), once generated you can select to view either the front or back camera video before downloading and then hit download to which camera images you wish to have.

Logs will be stored on your device and be found in your devices photo or video gallery.

How do I make an emergency call?

You can make an emergency call to your nearest guardian, a specific guardian, or emergency services/911 (only on Android) by selecting and dragging the “Emergency Call” button (red icon). This will start recording a log that also start a call with the option you chose.

Your guardians will be notified and the Seam app will start making a call to your guardian. Once the call is ended the app will continue to record a log which any guardian is able to view and watch live.

To end a recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

Can someone locate me without me knowing it?

No, to share your location with your guardians you will have to share a public log which will provide your guardians with your current GPS location. Past logs will only show the GPS location of where those logs were recorded.

How do I share my location?

Sharing your location is easy as just simply starting a share log, doing so will notify your guardians and also provide your location. Stopping a recording will allow you to stop sharing your location with your guardians.

Account Management

How do I change my account info?

To change any of your account information simply select the “settings” icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. From there you can select “My Profile” to change information about you like name, profile image, phone number, and email address.

Note changing your email address will require you to confirm the new email address provided.

I just got a new phone, can I keep my account and logs?

Congrats on your new phone! And yes you can still keep your account and logs, simply login into the Seam app on your new phone and all your logs can be accessed from your new phone. Thanks to all logs being saved on the cloud your logs can be accessed from any device logged into your Seam account.

Oh no I forgot my password! How do I reset it?

To reset your password simply select the “Forgot Password?” from the login page and you will be emailed a link to reset your password.

Can I get a refund for my premium subscription to SeamPlus?

Premium subscription purchases are 100% refundable for 24 hours after purchase. After 24 hours have passed the subscription sale is final without exception and cannot be refunded.

Why do I need to allow permissions for the app to use camera and storage, audio recording, location, and contact information?

Giving the Seam app permission to use camera and storage, audio recording, location, and get contact information will allow for the Seam app to effectively gather visual, audio, and GPS information from the built-in cameras, mic, and GPS location your device collects. As well, information about contacts when you are adding new guardians. Plus, be able to share this information to your guardians

What do you do with my data?

Any information or data we collect using our services will be stored on your device and be uploaded to the cloud via an SSL encrypted transfer; this includes all audio, visual, and GPS data collected. We do not use, sell, rent, trade or otherwise disclose any information collected except where required or permitted by law.

We may disclose information to technical service providers to operate or maintain the app and services. As well, we may provide aggregated statistics about our services, customers, traffic patterns and other information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any information that could personally identify you.

What is the Lotus device?

Lotus is a device connecting via Bluetooth to the Seam app and allowing you easy navigation of the app without having to out your phone/device. For right from the Lotus you are able to start a recording, share it to your guardians, and be able to make emergency calling. With the built-in microphone the Lotus is able to record the audio around from the device itself. Plus, the built-in speaker allows for hands free two-way calling with your trusted guardians.

Easily record and share information about your environment to your personal network easily and without ever needing to reach for your phone/device.

How do I connect the Lotus to the Seam app?

The Lotus connects to the Lotus through a bluetooth connection with the phone you have the Seam app on.

To connect the Lotus to the Seam app:

  1. Turn on your phone’s bluetooth if not already on.
  2. Activate the Lotus device by hitting any button on the device. The Lotus will indicate it is in bluetooth discovery and is looking for pairing.
  3. You should be notified now that your phone sees the Lotus and then connect to it.
  4. If you have successfully connected the Lotus to your phone the Lotus will turn purple, indicating it has successfully connected with your phone and is in standby mode waiting to be activated.
  5. Now open your Seam app and in the top right corner click on the Lotus icon, which looks like the Lotus. Doing so will take you through the process of the Seam app recognizing the Lotus device.
  6. After doing so you will have successfully connected your Lotus to the Seam app and are ready to start logging through the Lotus device!
How much does the Lotus cost?

The Lotus retails for $149.00 CAD or $199.00 USD. Plus, it can be shipped anywhere in the world.

How long of a battery does a Lotus last?

You can expect to get 3.5 hours of standby time and up to 2 hours of pure talk time on a single charge. However, with the included portable charging case you can easily get.

What is the charging case?

The charging case is a small and lightweight portable charger for your Lotus. Allowing you to easily charge the Lotus anywhere you are even if that is away from a power socket! The charging case goes where you go allowing you to charge the Lotus easily throughout the day. Ensuring the Lotus is charged and ready to go when you are.

How long does it take for a Lotus to charge?

One average a Lotus takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge. However, with the portable charging case you can easily charge the Lotus anywhere that is convenient for you. Ensuring the Lotus is always ready for when it matters most.

How do I operate the Lotus device?

Operating the Lotus is easy and simple, with all the controls and functions done via the two built-in buttons on the device.

Process for Lotus device:

  • Holding one button on the Lotus will turn it on and begin pairing to your device
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time will start private logging in the Seam app. With the Lotus device recording audio directly from the built-in microphone
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time will activate private logging for the Lotus and Seam app.
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time for the second time will active public logging for the Lotus and Seam app.
  • Pressing and holding both buttons at the same time will activate emergency calling, this does not matter if the Lotus device is in standby, private or public logging. Plus, with the built-in microphone and speaker you are able to take hands-free calling directly from the Lotus device
  • To end a call simply hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put you in public logging.
  • To stop public logging hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put the Lotus into standby mode awaiting to start a new log.
  • To turn off the Lotus device hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will turn off the Lotus and disconnect the Lotus from your device
What do the different colours indicate on the Lotus?

When the Lotus turns blue the Lotus is in Bluetooth discovery mode for pairing with your mobile phone.

When the Lotus turns purple the Louts is paired via Bluetooth and is in now in standby mode waiting to be activated.

When the Lotus turns green the Lotus and Seam app are now in private logging and is now tracking your GPS location as well as recording audio and visual data but without notifying your guardians.

When the Lotus turns yellow the Lotus and Seam app are not in public logging and is now tracking your GPS location as well as recording audio and visual data and is being shared with your pre-selected network. Allowing your guardians to be notified.

When the Lotus turns red the Lotus initiates hands-free calling to someone in your guardian list, or emergency services on Android. The Seam app is recording and sharing your GPS location with your guardians while you are on the call.

Can I accept an invite for someone else?

The Seam app aims to provide you with a safe and secure way to share rich environmental information with your trusted contacts. Therefore, there is no way to remotely accept an invite for someone else. The user invited must accept the invite on their own device.

What phones will run the Seam app?

We work on both iPhone and Android devices. As long as you are able to download the Seam app on the iTunes or Google Play app store then the app can be used. As well, no matter what phone your guardians use the Seam app works cross-platform allowing you to stay connected with a guardian using an iPhone device or a guardian using an Android device.

What are guardians and dependents?

Guardians are your trusted network of contacts, be it family, friends or co-workers. You are able to choose up to five guardians and share easily your logs with anyone one or all of your guardians.

Dependents are the people you are a guardian for.

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?

What information is recorded when I start and share a log to my guardians?When you start and share a log to your guardians the Seam app will start taking visual, audio, and GPS information which is available for playback when a guardian or yourself watches the log.

Visual information gathered by the Seam app is pictures taken from the built-in front and rear cameras of your phone or device.

Audio information gathered by the Seam app is sound taken from the built-in mic on your phone or device.

GPS information gathered by the Seam app is tracking of your global location during a recording of a log. This information is presented by mapping your location as a historical path.

How do I start recording a log?

You can start recording a log from any of the three circle icons on the Home page screen. Simply select and drag to the center of the screen the type of recording you wish to do.

  • The “Record” button (green icon) will start recording a log without notifying your guardians.
  • The “Share” button (yellow icon) will start recording a log but also notify all or just the guardian you choose to notify.
  • The “Emergency Calling” button (red icon) will start recording a log but also make an emergency call to your nearest guardian, a select guardian, or emergency services/911 (on Android only).
  • During any of these recording modes you will be able to switch from one to another. For example, switching from just recording a log to also sharing that log to making an emergency call.

To end any recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

NOTE: all logs that you record are stored on the cloud automatically and are available for all your guardians to view, even those which they were not notified to.

How do I start sharing a log?

You can start sharing a log by selecting and dragging the “share” button (yellow icon). This will start recording a log that also notifies all or just the guardian you choose to notify.

Your guardian(s) will be notified of you starting a log and will be able to watch these logs live in real-time as they are being recorded. Allowing them to see, hear, and know where you are exactly as you record live.

To end a recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

What are logs and how do I see them?

Logs are the recordings you do. These logs record visual, audio, and GPS information and are saved securely on the cloud. Logs can be seen in the Log page of the Seam app. As well, individual logs of each of your guardians can be seen by going to a dependent’s profile page, by clicking their name/profile picture in the My Dependents section of the My Guardians page, and clicking “View Logs.”

How do I delete logs?

Logs can be deleted by simply hitting the red trash bin icon beside each log. As well, logs will be automatically deleted after 24 hours for free users of the Seam app.

How do I download logs?

In the free version of the app downloading of logs is unavailable. However, with SeamPlus, the premium subscription of the app, you are able to download your recorded logs.

Can download logs by viewing the log you wish to download, selecting the image icon in the top right corner, and hitting the download icon. This will take you a page where it will ask you to generate the video (note: this can take several minutes depending on log size), once generated you can select to view either the front or back camera video before downloading and then hit download to which camera images you wish to have.

Logs will be stored on your device and be found in your devices photo or video gallery.

How do I make an emergency call?

You can make an emergency call to your nearest guardian, a specific guardian, or emergency services/911 (only on Android) by selecting and dragging the “Emergency Call” button (red icon). This will start recording a log that also start a call with the option you chose.

Your guardians will be notified and the Seam app will start making a call to your guardian. Once the call is ended the app will continue to record a log which any guardian is able to view and watch live.

To end a recording simply hit the “X” icon which appears during recording and confirm that you wish to stop recording. You will know you have stopped recording since the recording timer will go back to zero, your icon on the map will turn grey, and all recording icons will be available to use again.

Can someone locate me without me knowing it?

No, to share your location with your guardians you will have to share a public log which will provide your guardians with your current GPS location. Past logs will only show the GPS location of where those logs were recorded.

How do I share my location?

Sharing your location is easy as just simply starting a share log, doing so will notify your guardians and also provide your location. Stopping a recording will allow you to stop sharing your location with your guardians.

Account Management

How do I change my account info?

To change any of your account information simply select the “settings” icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. From there you can select “My Profile” to change information about you like name, profile image, phone number, and email address.

Note changing your email address will require you to confirm the new email address provided.

I just got a new phone, can I keep my account and logs?

Congrats on your new phone! And yes you can still keep your account and logs, simply login into the Seam app on your new phone and all your logs can be accessed from your new phone. Thanks to all logs being saved on the cloud your logs can be accessed from any device logged into your Seam account.

Oh no I forgot my password! How do I reset it?

To reset your password simply select the “Forgot Password?” from the login page and you will be emailed a link to reset your password.

Can I get a refund for my premium subscription to SeamPlus?

Premium subscription purchases are 100% refundable for 24 hours after purchase. After 24 hours have passed the subscription sale is final without exception and cannot be refunded.

Giving the Seam app permission to use camera and storage, audio recording, location, and get contact information will allow for the Seam app to effectively gather visual, audio, and GPS information from the built-in cameras, mic, and GPS location your device collects. As well, information about contacts when you are adding new guardians. Plus, be able to share this information to your guardians

What do you do with my data?

Any information or data we collect using our services will be stored on your device and be uploaded to the cloud via an SSL encrypted transfer; this includes all audio, visual, and GPS data collected. We do not use, sell, rent, trade or otherwise disclose any information collected except where required or permitted by law.

We may disclose information to technical service providers to operate or maintain the app and services. As well, we may provide aggregated statistics about our services, customers, traffic patterns and other information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any information that could personally identify you.

Lotus is a device connecting via Bluetooth to the Seam app and allowing you easy navigation of the app without having to out your phone/device. For right from the Lotus you are able to start a recording, share it to your guardians, and be able to make emergency calling. With the built-in microphone the Lotus is able to record the audio around from the device itself. Plus, the built-in speaker allows for hands free two-way calling with your trusted guardians.

Easily record and share information about your environment to your personal network easily and without ever needing to reach for your phone/device.

How do I connect the Lotus to the Seam app?

The Lotus connects to the Lotus through a bluetooth connection with the phone you have the Seam app on.

To connect the Lotus to the Seam app:

  1. Turn on your phone’s bluetooth if not already on.
  2. Activate the Lotus device by hitting any button on the device. The Lotus will indicate it is in bluetooth discovery and is looking for pairing.
  3. You should be notified now that your phone sees the Lotus and then connect to it.
  4. If you have successfully connected the Lotus to your phone the Lotus will turn purple, indicating it has successfully connected with your phone and is in standby mode waiting to be activated.
  5. Now open your Seam app and in the top right corner click on the Lotus icon, which looks like the Lotus. Doing so will take you through the process of the Seam app recognizing the Lotus device.
  6. After doing so you will have successfully connected your Lotus to the Seam app and are ready to start logging through the Lotus device!

How long of a battery does a Lotus last?

What is the charging case?

The charging case is a small and lightweight portable charger for your Lotus. Allowing you to easily charge the Lotus anywhere you are even if that is away from a power socket! The charging case goes where you go allowing you to charge the Lotus easily throughout the day. Ensuring the Lotus is charged and ready to go when you are.

How long does it take for a Lotus to charge?

One average a Lotus takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge. However, with the portable charging case you can easily charge the Lotus anywhere that is convenient for you. Ensuring the Lotus is always ready for when it matters most.

How do I operate the Lotus device?

Operating the Lotus is easy and simple, with all the controls and functions done via the two built-in buttons on the device.

Process for Lotus device:

  • Holding one button on the Lotus will turn it on and begin pairing to your device
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time will start private logging in the Seam app. With the Lotus device recording audio directly from the built-in microphone
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time will activate private logging for the Lotus and Seam app.
  • Pressing both buttons at the same time for the second time will active public logging for the Lotus and Seam app.
  • Pressing and holding both buttons at the same time will activate emergency calling, this does not matter if the Lotus device is in standby, private or public logging. Plus, with the built-in microphone and speaker you are able to take hands-free calling directly from the Lotus device
  • To end a call simply hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put you in public logging.
  • To stop public logging hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will put the Lotus into standby mode awaiting to start a new log.
  • To turn off the Lotus device hold one of the buttons on the Lotus. This will turn off the Lotus and disconnect the Lotus from your device
What do the different colours indicate on the Lotus?

When the Lotus turns blue the Lotus is in Bluetooth discovery mode for pairing with your mobile phone.

When the Lotus turns purple the Louts is paired via Bluetooth and is in now in standby mode waiting to be activated.

When the Lotus turns green the Lotus and Seam app are now in private logging and is now tracking your GPS location as well as recording audio and visual data but without notifying your guardians.

When the Lotus turns yellow the Lotus and Seam app are not in public logging and is now tracking your GPS location as well as recording audio and visual data and is being shared with your pre-selected network. Allowing your guardians to be notified.

When the Lotus turns red the Lotus initiates hands-free calling to someone in your guardian list, or emergency services on Android. The Seam app is recording and sharing your GPS location with your guardians while you are on the call.
